In our experience, many institutions of higher learning select Seiko to celebrate their graduating class, and this example here - a gold 2000 Seiko "Nihon University, College of Law" 7N01-6890 dress watch, with original Seiko 7N01 instructions manual - is no different.

Nihon University (日本大学, Nihon Daigaku, lit. 'Japan University'), abbreviated as Nichidai (日大), is one of the oldest universities in Japan.  A private research university in Japan, its predecessor, Nihon Law School (currently the College of Law), was founded by the Minister of Justice in 1889.  The university's name is derived from the Japanese word "Nihon," meaning Japan.

The university has exploded in size since its founding and now consists of 16 colleges and 87 departments, 20 postgraduate schools, one junior college which is composed of five departments, one correspondence division, 32 research institutes and three hospitals.  The number of students exceeds 70,000 and Nihon University is the largest in Japan.

Nihon University College of Law (NUCL) is the largest undergraduate law school in Japan, whose founding coincided when the original constitution of Japan was issued.  NUCL is a comprehensive faculty of social sciences with five departments that focus on the study of law and specialize in political science, economics, journalism and media, business, as well as social cultural studies.

With a curriculum that spans five fields including politics, economics, business, journalism, media, policy, and culture, in addition to law, students at NUCL can further enhance their interest in and understanding of society by developing their knowledge of law.  It is the largest law school in Japan with over 7,000 students and over 130 full-time faculty members.

Per Nihon University, it “aims to contribute to world peace and the welfare of humanity by relying on the Japanese spirit, valuing Japanese tradition based on its history and culture, abiding by the Constitution, cultivating the spirit of independent creativity, and by working for the development of culture.  The mission of Nihon University is to develop cultured people who are of sound mind and body and conduct in-depth academic research by gathering a broad range of knowledge from around the world.”

Now on to the gold Seiko itself - introduced its 7Nxx movement in circa 1993, the Seiko caliber came in a range of styles and dial colors, to include the gold one here - Seiko would cease production of the calibre in 2009.

1969 was one of the most spectacular in Seiko’s storied history. That year, it released the world’s first automatic chronograph, the Calibre 6139 and the V.F.A. (Very Fine Adjusted) movement – which delivered Seiko’s highest yet level of precision for a mechanical movement.

Seiko would release another first upon the world, the first quartz wristwatch - the Seiko Quartz Astron, which went on to change the way the world told time, and severely tested the dominance of the Swiss, bringing high technology within the reach of all. The Swiss would literally pay for neglecting the evolution of the watch, in terms of market share and profit.

As the world got accustomed to the novel new Astron technology dominating the market in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Seiko was hard at work on its next innovation to challenge Swiss watch industry dominance, developing the Superior, Grand Quartz, King Quartz - and eventually the 7Nxx line here.
