Seiko introduced the Skyliner brand – of which this full serviced early 1965 Seiko 6220-9970 Skyliner dress mechanical counts itself – in 1961 as a no-nonsense minimalist dress watch, hand wound, and without date.
Seiko positioned the Skyliner as a mid-range offering at the time, and it came in stainless-steel and gold variants. The company subsequently refreshed the line again, in 1966, with a redesign that resulted in a much higher profile, placing the Skyliner at the forefront of Seiko offerings.
Seiko specialized in clean dials, not marred by any date function or numerals, in the 1950s and 1960s, coupled with thoughtfully chose dial fonts to present pure class – and this dial is no different. Complementing this is an unpolished case, with crisp angles and sharp corners, and dauphine hands.
This Seiko Skyliner comes on a leather strap, and with nylon strap, rugged travel case, and springbar tool.
