Many Seiko watches from the 1960’s through the mid-1980’s have rightly gone down as design classics, building a considerable following amongst watch collectors.
As well, there are also quite a few vintage Seiko watches popular with Seiko enthusiasts, and Seiko wasn't above emulating popular watch asthetics - but also making them actually affordable, like the 1989 Seiko "Tank" 1F20-5F20 Creo womens dress watch here, on its original two-tone stainless-steel Seiko bracelet and with hang tags.
Some truly gorgeous watches from the same era produced by the same company have quietly slipped under the radar for the simple reason they were designed for the typically slighter wrist, ie: women. The design of the Seiko 1F20 quartz diver - classic and simple - is one of these, and it borrows heavily from an instantly recognizable square-shaped watch.
And it’s a shame, because many of these smaller watches feature exquisite details – Seiko found an original, great looking formula for its divers, and stuck with it. And the Japanese watch manufactuer also used reliable quartz movements for most of them, this one here included.
This vintage Seiko dress watch comes on its original Seiko-signed two-tone bracelet, and with rugged travel case and springbar tool.
